Apple punishing Facebook for violate its policies with research app

Apple banned "Facebook Research" app for collection user's personal information. 

Apple bans Facebook Research app

Recently Apple says, Facebook broke apple's policies with an app called Facebook Research app. Facebook distributed the Research Vpn app in 2016. Facebook Research app can allowed to collect all kinds of personal information about an iphone user. They targeted teens and collecting their all of information such as their private message, location, apps history and so on. Facebook reward user's to download and install facebook research app and give it root network access. So facebook pass through all user data. With ads on Instagram and Snapchat Facebook paid iphone user's to download Research app for 20$ per month without knowledge of Apple. This program referred to a facebook project name "Project Atlas".

An apple spokersperson provided this statement:

"We designed out enterprise developer program solely for the internal distribution of apps within an organization. Facebook has been using their membership to distribute a data-collecting app to consumers. Which is a clear breach of their agreement with apple. A developer can using their enterprise certificates to distribute apps to consumers will have their certificates revoked. Which is what we did in this case to protect our users and their data."

 A facebook spokersman provided this statement:

"Facebook Research app running the program to learn how people use their phones and other services. Like many companies, we invite people to participate in research that helps us to identify things we can be doing better. Since this research is aimed at helping Facebook understand how people use their mobile devices, We have provided extensive information about the type of data we collect and how they can participate. We don't share this information with others and people can participating at any time."
 Another Facebook spokesperson provided this statement:


"Key facts about this market research program are being igonored. Despite early reports, there was nothing secret about this. It was literally called the Facebook Research App. It wasn't spying as all of the people who signed up to participate went through a clear on boarding process asking for their permission and were paid to participate. Finally, less that 5% of the people who choose to participate in this research program were teens. All of them with signed parental consent forms."


Techcrunch inversitaged and reported that Facebook was breaking Apple's policy with paid test to employees. Because of recruiting testers and paying them which violate that rule. Strafach, a security expert investigate and confirmed, Facebook Research app contains lots of code from Onavo Protect. Apple banned this Onavo Protect in last year. Apple confirmed that Facebook violated their policies and Apple blocked Facebook Research App on tuesday before the social network pulled it voluntarily.
